The Hill Retreat is a century old heritage home in the Himalayan village of Pahalgam, the Valley of the Shepherds, at an elevation of 8000 ft. Originally owned by family of noblemen and merchants plying their craft along the traditional Silk Road, tracing their familial roots to the upper reaches of Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, in undivided India.
The home is located tucked away in a peaceful part of Pahalgam, yet only a short stroll away from old grand bazaar, and the picturesque 18-hole Pine covered Lidder Valley golf course. Its idyllic location on the road to Aru valley along the crystal blue waters of the Lidder river, offers a breathtaking view of the perennially snow-capped mountains of the mighty Pir Panjal range.
Our home has been carefully and painstakingly restored over the years with sustainable design, coordinated with traditional crafts and locally sourced material, mindful of the local regulations and environmental challenges impacting the delicate Himalayan ecosystem.
Set in a large verdant garden fringed and peppered with aged Walnut trees, the Cottage has an all- weather wooden patio and a detached fire pit to keep warm on a cold evening.
The neoclassical walnut and pine wood panelled interiors of the three en-suite bedrooms, with an informal lounge, dining area, and wooden loft provide a cozy peaceful oasis to the discerning, seeking a feeling of being at an old friend’s log cabin and not a typical bricks and mortar hotel.
